Pistons trade Isaiah Stewart to Grizzlies for three second-round picks

The Pistons are moving on from Isaiah Stewart.

According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, Detroit has agreed to trade the veteran big man to the Grizzlies in exchange for three future second-round picks.

The move comes less than a week after Hoops Wire relayed that Stewart had become available in trade discussions as Detroit explored ways to reshape its roster.

Stewart, 24, played a key role for a Pistons team that won 60 games this past season, averaging 10.0 points, 5.0 rebounds and 1.6 blocks in 58 appearances while finishing seventh in Sixth Man of the Year voting.

He also developed into one of the league’s better interior defenders, holding opponents to 43.8 percent shooting at the rim.

Still, Detroit appeared comfortable moving forward with Jalen Duren as its starting center and Paul Reed in a larger reserve role.

Stewart is set to earn $15 million next season and has a team option for the same amount in 2027-28.

For Memphis, the move adds another rugged frontcourt defender to a roster looking to return to playoff contention. Stewart’s toughness, rebounding and defensive versatility should make him a natural fit alongside the Grizzlies’ young core.

The Pistons, meanwhile, continue to add future draft assets as they reshape the roster around Cade Cunningham following a breakthrough season.
